United States Climate Action Partnership, “A Call for Action” 2007

In 2007, a coalition of businesses and environmental groups formed the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) to call on the federal government to require caps on greenhouse gas emissions. Corporate members of USCAP included Shell, British Petroleum, and Ford, while nonprofit members included the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, the Nature Conservancy, and the National Wildlife Federation. In 2007, USCAP issued “A Call for Action,” recommending policy reforms such as tax reform and cap-and-trade to reduce greenhouse gases. What incentives did these corporations have to call for regulations that might affect the way that their businesses operated?
